Looking to install a new internal door to match your homes design. Making sure you get an accurate fit is an important consideration, but not sure on how to measure your door size? When measuring for a new door, we recommend that you measure the opening rather an existing door.
An important feature when adding a new door to the home is to get the right measurements. For the most accurate door fit, you will need to take three measurements including the height, width and thickness of openings.
When measuring for your homes new door, please note that you will need to take into account any flooring or carpet. The depth of flooring should be taken out of height measurement.
Measuring the height for your new door should be taken at three points of the frame. The three measurements should be taken on the left, right and centre to gain an accurate door size for your home. Remember when measuring your door height to make allowance for your flooring.
Measuring for your new door includes taking three width measurements inside the door frame. To find out an accurate width for your door, the best option is to measure the top, bottom and centre. Determining your doors width should be taken from the widest measurement.
The last measurement to get the right door for your room should be the thickness. This measurement can be taken from your existing door at handle height. Door thickness comes in three standard sizes, 35mm being the most common and 40mm or 45mm for your fire door options.
If you need to adapt the size of your door, remember you can trim 32mm from the height and width.
