How To Choose The Right Bathroom Suite

Choosing a Bathroom Suite is an important decision - to ensure you get it right - and can therefore be a little overwhelming at first. With so many different designs and styles available on the market, it’s difficult to know what’s going to work in your space and what design is the best. This page will help you to get started, and give you a quick overview of the different types of sanitarywear that is available and what they are commonly used for, which hopefully will help to make the right choice for your bathroom needs.

Close Coupled WC

Close Coupled WC's are the most common choice within the UK. A Close Coupled WC has the cistern resting directly on top of the pan towards the rear which creates one streamlined unit. The pipes are hidden within the casings of the toilet and their compact nature means they are perfect for fitting into small or awkward spaces.

Space Saving

Designed for small spaces, space saving suites take up less room then standard. Perfect for cloakrooms, en-suites or simply small bathrooms. Corner basins, short projection WC pans are just a few items that are available in this range

Back To Wall WC

Back To Wall WC's have a concealed cistern hidden behind the wall or in fitted furniture. Using a back to wall WC also maximises space in a small bathroom whilst adding a contemporary feel and an eye pleasing bathroom

Full Pedestal

A pedestal basin is by far the most popular design you'll find in bathrooms up and down the UK. With a floor mounted pedestal, it's perfect for hiding unsightly pipework which goes from your basin into the floor whilst also supporting the basin

Wall Mounted WC

Wall Hung WC's is where the pan is held off the ground by a hidden supporting frame and, as with a back to wall WC, the cistern is hidden. These clean, modern style pans fit beautifully with contemporary bathrooms.

Semi Pedestal

Increasingly popular, a semi pedestal sits under the basin and hangs from the wall, freeing up floor space below

Rimless WC

Rimless WC's are easier to clean as they flush by propelling jets of water around the bowl without needing a trim. They are highly efficient and can be easily incorporated into any bathroom, can be mixed perfectly with other products.

Semi Recessed Basin

Designed to be mounted into a work surface or furniture, the front of the basin protrudes forward, whilst the rear part is recessed. This style is very good at maximising space in the bathroom.

Fully Shrouded

The waste pipe and water inlet are fully shrouded within the ceramic, the toilet sits flush against the wall.

Countertop Wash Bowl

Designed to sit on top of a work surface or furniture unit

Soft Close Seat

The soft close function ensures that the seat and lid close slowly without banging against the pan, reducing noise and risk of damage.

Comfort Height WC Pans

Set at a 450mm height or more, Comfort pans provide added comfort, especially for taller people or the elderly

Frames & Concealed Cisterns

When space is an issue, it might be worth considering a concealed cistern. They are easy to install and sit out-of-sight behind a wall or in a unit, attached to the toilet pan. Concealed cisterns are only viable for a back-to-wall pan which makes them the only real option for a back to wall or wall hung toilet.

Creating The Perfect Bathroom

For some, a Bathroom is a special place to relax, enjoy a little peace from the rest of the family, and relish in the restorative powers of a hot soak in the tub, surrounded by candles and a glass of wine. Bathrooms do not just have to be functional. With a little creativity, re-structuring if possible and the addition of a few accessories that will make the bathroom a much more inviting place to be, it is possible to turn a plain and rather dull area into an attractive and enticing room. Utilising free space to create storage will instantly take care of bathroom necessities that don’t need to be out on display while streamlining sinks, toilets and bathing facilities will immediately make a bathroom appear bigger and brighter

Small Extras

If your budget will not stretch to giving a bathroom a major overhaul, it is still possible to make a few minor changes that will instantly make a bathroom more appealing. Underfloor Heating, Central Heating Radiators & Heated Towel Rails make all the difference to comfort, especially when stepping out of the bath on chilly nights, and slip-resistant flooring is a must. Mirror lights can add atmosphere and are very useful when bathroom lighting is poor while spotlights are also a great idea for focusing light on certain areas of the room. Bath tiles can really brighten up a plain room, and also prevent water damage to walls. If you're making any improvements to your bathroom yourself, make sure you have all the correct Plumbing Supplies, in order to avoid a disaster!

Create Space & Light

Bathrooms are frequently squeezed into tiny spaces, often without windows or with very little natural light. By changing old-fashioned sinks, showers and toilets for more modern and streamlined alternatives, such as Aqualisa Showers, space is created instantly. Consider over-bath showers rather than a separate cubicle, and use the extra space for storage. Back To Wall Toilets help to create space as the cistern is concealed behind the pan inside a wall or unit. Shelves can then be built above the toilet, to hold towels, toiletries and other bathroom essentials. Constructing a cupboard under a basin also provides useful storage space. If the bathroom is lacking in natural light, then the creative use of electric lighting will help to make the room instantly brighter and more cheerful.
