Hessian in Building/Construction
Hesssian roll is proving popular this week.
Hessian Frost Protection roll is used in the construction and building industries to cover brickwork and concrete because it provides excellent protection against frost damage in cold weather and dampening in hot weather.
It is breathable and so resists condensation and associated spoilage of the contents. It is very durable and can withstand rough handling in transit; these properties have also led to its use for temporary protection as wet covering to prevent rapid moisture loss in setting of cement and concrete by the construction industry.
- Protects new brickwork, mortar, concrete from harsh weather conditions (frost)
- Can be used in hot weather to slow drying and avoid cracking
Hessian Roll is kept in stock for fast delivery throughout the UK
Hessian is also commonly used for making sandbags. Hessian sacks are filled with sand and used to keep floodwater out of properties or when building temporary embankments or field fortifications.

Hessian is a dense woven fabric made from the jute plant or sisal fibres. First exported from India in the early 19th century Hessian was traditionally used as backing for linoleum, rugs and carpet. Its name “hessian” is, according to Wikipedia, is attributed to the use of the fabric, initially, as part of the uniform of soldiers from the German state of Hessen who were called “Hessians.”
Hessian is often used to make sacks and bags to ship goods like coffee beans and in more recent years jute is being used as an eco-friendly material for bags, rugs, and other products.
