Useful Blog Posts & Guides
Hot water cylinders are large hot water storage tanks used for storing hot water for domestic or commercial use. They are commonly used to ensure ample amounts of hot water is readily available for showering, bathing and for general household use.
There are two main types of cylinders - unvented and vented. This is then broken down into direct and indirect cylinders. Which cylinder you need all depends on the hot water system you have and depending on how much stored hot water you intend to use day to day, will determine what hot water cylinder size you need.

What is an Unvented Hot Water Cylinder?
An unvented hot water cylinder is connected directly to the cold mains water feed eliminating the need for a header tank in your loft. Because this is connected directly to the mains feed it can deliver hot water at mains pressure which benefits you with high water pressure supply.
The cold water is then heated either from an electric immersion heater within the hot water cylinder (direct) or via the central heating boiler (indirect). This will determine if you need a direct unvented hot water cylinder or unvented indirect hot water cylinder. Twin coil hot water cylinders are used when you have two different methods of heating water.
